MFAP5, also called MAGP2, is a secreted, cell-associated 25 kDa mammalian member of the MFAP family of proteins. MFAP5 is rich in serine and threonine residues. It also has multiple binding regions on fibrillins and has covalent periodic association with fibrillin-containing microfibrils. As a 25-kD microfibril-associated glycoprotein, MFAP5 stimulates the assembly of elastic fibers, a complex structure composed of a tropoelastin inner core and microfibril outer mantle comprising proteins such as fibrillins and microfibril-associated glycoproteins that guide tropoelastin deposition. MFAP5 can function also outside of its role in elastic fibers and activates cellular signaling pathways. It interacts with the EGF-like repeats of Notch-1, which leads to both cell surface release of the Notch-1 extracellular domain and subsequent activation of Notch signaling. 参考文献
